A movie screening and panel discussion heading to Guelph next week is putting a focus on homelessness, and finding solutions for those impacted by it.

The event will run at 10C Shared Space on Carden Street on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m.

Four panelists will lead the talk, and the short film Bridging Divides: Voices and Visions about Homelessness in Mid-size Cities will be shown.

“This documentary features critical dialogue and collective thinking among two people with lived experience of homelessness and housing precarity, a service provider, a business owner, and a member of law enforcement regarding the causes and consequences of homelessness, public safety, and ways to foster community resilience – that is community harmony, sense of belonging, and ability to get along (Kulig et al., 2009),” a news release on the event stated.

The four panelists are:

  • Brendan Johnson, executive director of the Guelph Neighborhood Support Coalition
  • Barb McPhee, a community advocate and part of the Poverty Elimination Task Force in Guelph
  • Bill O’Grady, a retired sociology and anthropology professor at the University of Guelph
  • Laura Pin, an assistant professor in political science at Wilfrid Laurier University

It is free to attend, and you’re asked to register in advance online.
