It was 10 years in the making, but the new gurdwara on Clair Road might have been worth the wait.
After years of legal wranglings, neighbourhood opposition and construction delays, the gurdwara was ready to be enjoyed by the city's growing Sikh community in the summer, with a grand opening held at the end of August.
“Gurdwara is complete,” said Guelph Sikh Society’s spokesperson Dr. Ravi Rai. “We are so happy honestly. We are happy that it is finally done.”
The new building at 410 Clair Rd. is over 15,000 square feet. It replaces a makeshift place of worship in a former Beer Store on Stevenson Street.
