For 14 years Mary Rife has been fixing and selling bikes for charity at her Arkelll Road home. Then in early October, someone complained and it all came to a screeching halt.
Mary was disheartened. People were angry. The community rallied.
At the end of the day Mary applied for a variance from the city's Committee of Adjustment that would allow her to continue her efforts. A total of 89 people wrote letters of support and others offered to pay the cost of the variance application.
In the end the city sided with Mary and the bikes are back on the front lawn of her house.
