FERGUS - Officials with the Northern Tornadoes Project says a tornado "did indeed" touch down in the Fergus area Sunday night.
The NTP said a storm survey team "found a long, narrow path of damage" in the area.
The Northern Tornadoes Project was founded at Western University in 2017 aiming to better detect tornado occurrence throughout Canada, "improve severe and extreme weather understanding and prediction, mitigate against harm to people and property, and investigate future implications due to climate change."
A tornado warning was issued for the Caledon area around 10:56 p.m. Sunday by Environment Canada, while damage and power outages were reported in Fergus. The Fergus area was issued a severe thunderstorm warning, with the potential for tornado activity.
The NTP arrived in the Fergus area Monday morning to take a look at the damage.
It has given a preliminary EF0 rating, and expects to release more details soon.
