Mike Bird has a philosophy about his new warehouse liquidation business in Guelph.
"I don't want to specialize in anything, I want to have everything," says Bird.
Bird's Warehouse Liquidations opened for business Tuesday morning at 101 Beverley St. in The Ward neighbourhood.
With over 4,000 square feet of space, the outlet store sells everything from children's toys to diapers to bicycles and coffee makers.
"You never know what the next truck load is going to have on it. As long as I keep prices low, everybody is happy," he said.
Bird's business background was in project management and logistics, but he's always wanted to get into the retail side of things.
He was also an avid storage wars-type for a while, buying the contents of storage lockers and reselling it.
"But it was a lot of work selling stuff online and with storage lockers, for every truckload of good stuff you send two truckloads to the dump," he said. "I wanted my own store: bricks and mortar."
Bird gets his items from large retailers getting rid of new product that is either no longer wanted, has damaged boxes or is a return of some kind. Almost everything in the store is a new item.
Plans for Bird's Warehouse Liquidations were formed in January and it took almost eight months to make it a reality.
"I'm a little bit nervous and a little bit excited," Bird said. "It's going to be fun."
The warehouse is open 10 a.m to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. It is closed Mondays. For updates on new items they can be followed on Facebook and more store details are available on their website: www.birdswarehouseliquidations.com.
