Doors have opened at two new homes for Ukrainian families who have arrived in Canada.

The homes in Guelph and Elora offer space for Ukrainians to start rebuilding their lives. Grassroots Response to the Ukrainian Crisis is the organization behind it and is looking for support since it said it doesn't receive government funding, in a press release.

Through its program it offers housing assistance, basic necessities, language and employment support and help with transportation and paperwork.

“Our goal is to offer not just shelter but a sense of hope and belonging,” said Alona Ryznik, support coordinator at Grassroots Response, in the release. “As a newcomer myself who moved to Canada two years ago, I understand the immense challenges these families face. We are here to walk alongside them on this journey.”

Families who came to Canada through the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel program and are looking for assistance can apply online. After submitting an application, a volunteer will reach out to talk about specific needs and connect families with the appropriate services.
