A new bus option is coming to Guelph, albeit in a very limited format initially.
FlixBus will be offering bus service in Guelph, to and from Toronto, Kitchener and Waterloo University.
The bus company started in Munich, Germany and aims to provide affordable bus travel. In 2018 they launched service in the USA.
With the Ontario bus market in flux due to companies like Greyhound discontinuing their services, it gave FlixBus the chance to penetrate the Canadian market for bus travel, said a company spokesperson
But routes are initially quite limited.
The service routes and times between Guelph and downtown Toronto are:
Tuesday and Wednesday
Guelph - Toronto: leave Guelph at 11:55 a.m., arrive in Toronto at 1:20 p.m.
Toronto - Guelph: leave Toronto at 7:45 a.m., arrive in Guelph at 9:15 a.m.
Thursday to Monday
Guelph - Toronto: leave Guelph at 11:55 a.m., arrive in Toronto at 1:20 p.m.; leave Guelph at 6:25 p.m., arrive in Toronto at 7:50 p.m.
Toronto - Guelph: leave Toronto at 7:45 a.m., arrive in Guelph at 9:15 a.m.; leave Toronto at 2:15 p.m., arrive in Guelph at 3:45 p.m.
The service routes and times between Guelph and Kitchener and Waterloo University are:
Tuesday and Wednesday
Guelph - Kitchener: 9:20 a.m. - 9:50 a.m. arrival in Kitchener
Guelph - Waterloo University: 9:20 a.m. - 10 a.m. arrival in Waterloo
Thursday to Monday
Guelph - Kitchener: 9:20 a.m. - 9:50 a.m.; or 3:50 p.m. - 4:20 p.m. arrival in Kitchener
Guelph - Waterloo University: 9:20 a.m. - 10 a.m. or 3:50 p.m. - 4:35 p.m. arrival in Waterloo
Ticket prices for a trip to Toronto from Guelph are $14.99 and FlixBus is offering a special for those who book before April 7, a $4.99 ticket. The service launches on April 7.
FlixBus aims to target students, especially with their stop at the University of Waterloo.
