Art exhibitions without battling the big city traffic.
A Guelph couple has set up shop in The Ward to showcase artists from across the country and beyond.
"What we're trying to do with the space is bring something new and exciting to Guelph, and allow them to see what's out there in the Canadian market, and the unique range of artists that we have in this country and are accessible to us," said Ross Jennings, co-owner of Lalani Jennings Contemporary Art.
He and his wife Sheena Lalani took possession of the space at 60 Ontario St. in January.
While small in size, Jennings said the space worked for them.
"There was something that clicked for my wife and I, that we could just have the vision of how it would work," he said. "We think it's the perfect size and it's the perfect location.
"We live in The Ward, we love The Ward and I think it's a really great community of individuals from all across the spectrum and it's a really great place to be."
One of the most important aspects of it, he said, was wanting to present a welcoming and comfortable environment for locals to enjoy art.
Currently, the space is home to Constellations I, an exhibit featuring roughly 30 pieces of work, ranging from paintings to ceramic sculptures that patrons can view and purchase.
Jennings said all the pieces are from Canadian artists, based in such places as Halifax, Victoria, BC, Montreal, plus a couple in the United States.
"Guelph has a huge artistic community, and it has a huge artistic heritage but it's not utilized as much as it could be by the general public," he said. "Those who are involved are very involved, and very supportive. But for the general public, there's so much that they can see and there's so much that they can experience.
"We're just really trying to bridge that gap."
The space is open Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
