Nerf gun fun planned at Bulldog Fitness

Completely safe, loads of rowdy good times

Nerf gun shoot out. You know you want to, kids.

Bulldog Fitness is hosting a Nerf Gun Night in their 259 Grange Road (at Victoria Road) next Friday. The fitness facility is geared to children and youth, and so is the Nerf fun. The cost is $16 for non-members, $14 for members. A monthly membership at the facility is $35.

Krystal Hall is the recreation manager, and Bobby Hayes the owner of Bulldog Fitness. The business has been in Guelph’s east side for about 10 years. It offers before- and after-school recreational programs, and camps for kids.

Nerf Gun Night started back in October of last year to provide children and youth with a safe place to play with the toys, saving the kitchens and living rooms of homes from sustaining Nerf gun collateral damage. The activity is intensely energetic and fun, and things can get broken.

The bullets, Hall said, are harmless, but Bulldog supplies goggles and bullets, and guns if needed. Soft walls, barriers and other take-cover apparatus are set up in the facility’s largest gymnasium space. Participants usually bring their own Nerf guns. The game is completely safe.

“Kids get rowdy at home playing with Nerf guns, so we figured we would open our facility, make it accessible for the kids, and provide various games and activities for them while they play Nerf guns,” Hall said.

Previous Nerf gun event has been booked solid, with about 30 kids turning up for the shoot outs. But with the next one falling on the Friday before March Break, registration has been somewhat slower.

“It’s a blast,” she said. “The kids just love it. They meet new children from various schools, because we get them from both the east and west ends. It provides a good, positive social environment.”

Boys and girls are welcome, and there is always a good number of girls.

“Predominantly, everybody thinks Nerf is for boys, but that is not the case here,” Hall added.

Bulldog Fitness’ March Break Camp is coming up from March 13-17, running from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with sports, activities, crafts, and games. It’s for ages 3 to 13 and costs $185. Bulldog is a peanut and tree nut free facility.
