Work is finally underway at Lyon Park on a pair of new softball fields. The $1.3 million project began last year, but has been delayed.

The new sports amenities - one at the north end and one at the south – are now being built.

The work on the grounds began last fall, with existing grass surfaces and many trees being removed, and grading carried out. New trees will be planted.

The project was originally scheduled for completion by April of this year, but weather delayed the work this spring. The ground was too muddy until recently.

The reconfigured softball fields will be a significant improvement over what was previously in place at the park. They will include new outfields, backstops, spectator seating, and benches and dugouts. There will be additional seating areas and formal trails installed.

The work should be complete in time for summer.
