An iconic water tower in the city’s west end has received its first new coat of paint since 1997 and, with the addition of a period and two letters, now points people to the city’s web site.
The months-long recoating of the Speedvale Water Tower was completed earlier today and the city says the project was on time and within budget.
Preparation for the paint job began in February and the tower, located at the intersection of Speedvale Avenue West and Imperial Road North, was surrounded by scaffolding for much of the time since.
The landmark's former livery was maintained, once again painted white with blue letters.
The 47-metre steel tower, which can hold about four per cent of Guelph’s total water supply when filled to capacity, was built in 1969 and last recoated in 1997.
