Flochem Ltd. has been hit with a hefty fine in relation to a chemical spill three years ago.
The Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change fined the company, located on County Road 124 just west of Guelph, $60,000 for a 2015 hydrogen peroxide spill.
"The conviction relates to permitting the discharge of a contaminant, namely Hydrogen Peroxide, into the natural environment, which may cause an adverse effect," says a ministry news release.
The company was also ordered to pay a $15,000 victim fine surcharge.
Flochem distributes bulk liquid chemicals and other related products.
On Dec. 21, 2015, approximately 1,800 Litres of hydrogen peroxide was spilled on the FloChem site, some of which travelled offsite and into a roadside ditch, the ministry said.
