Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the federal government is extending the Canada Recovery Benefit and the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit by 12 weeks.
That brings the total maximum Canadians can claim to 38 weeks.
The federal government is also extending the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit to four weeks, from the previous two weeks.
"No one should be going to work sick right now," said Trudeau.
Trudeau said his government is also extending the help available under the current Employment Insurance benefits to 50 weeks, meaning 24 more weeks Canadians can use if they need it.
