In celebration of the UN International Day of Yoga the University of Guelph will host a yoga class.
The event will be held at Johnston Green on June 21 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. The rain location is the main hall in Peter Clark Hall. It is a free event where everyone is welcome and no yoga experience is required.
It is presented by U of G Yoga and Meditation Collective and the U of G Yoga Club.
The hour long yoga session includes yogic breathing, meditation and relaxation, along with yoga. The event seeks to acknowledge the mental, physical, emotional, social, environmental, and spiritual benefits of yoga, said in a press release.
Following the yoga session there will be a lunch and open mic. Organizers ask attendees to bring their own lunch, yoga mat and water bottle. It is recommended for participants to not eat an hour before the yoga practice. During the open mic there will be an opportunity for participants to share their yoga or mental health journeys.
The International Day of Yoga was an idea thought of by India and backed by 175 member states through a resolution from the UN.
