A new lettered Guelph sign has been added to Market Square, which will light up for special occasions and events.

A community interfaithful vigil is being held on Monday for people to grieve together a year after violent events on Oct. 7, 2023, in Israel and to acknowledge the Palestinian civilians who were killed in Gaza.

The event is being held by Independent Jewish Voices Guelph (IJV Guelph) and Interfaith Justice Guelph. It will be on Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m.at Market Square.

The event will include musical performances, candlelight vigil, food and speeches from community members and faith leaders.

It is being held the same date and time as the memorial event being hosted by the Jewish community at Branion Plaza.

When asked in an interview why IJV Guelph and Interfaith Justice Guelph was hosting its event the same day and time as the one at Branion Plaza, an IJV Guelph event organizer said it was a coincidence. They said their event was planned two weeks ago.
