Guelph’s annual giant book sale has found a new home this year.
In April, Friends of the Guelph Public Library made a public call-out asking for help to find a new location for the sale. The sale was hosted for the last couple of years at 69 Huron St.
“We’re back to a giant book sale again,” said Ian Findlay, chair of Friends of the Guelph Public Library.
One of the sale’s volunteers came across a space at 440 Elmira Rd.. It was up for lease and since the new tenants aren’t moving in until the fall it gives Friends of the Guelph Public Library time to set up shop.
“And it just provided us that brief two month window that we needed to sneak in and do our sale and sneak out before the more permanent tenants of that space will take it over,” said Findlay.
Since tenants will be moving in after the sale, next year’s sale won’t be at the same location. There will be a hunt for a new location for the 2025 book sale.
“People are excited to find our new location and check it out and help us do what we're doing,” said Findlay.
Findlay said this year’s sale will be 10 times bigger than last year. The space is roughly 13,000 square feet with plenty of room for books. It’s big, bright, located along a bus route and has plenty of parking.
Details about dates for book donation drop offs will be ironed out. The book sale date hasn’t been confirmed yet but will likely be at the end of September.
