NEWS RELEASE
IN OUR FATHERS' FOOTSTEPS
*************************
Her father’s Second World War memoir inspired a Guelph woman to create the not-for-profit In Our Fathers’ Footsteps in May 2020 so the daughters/sons/nieces/nephews/grandchildren of those who'd served in the Netherlands could walk in the footsteps of the Canadian troops for the Liberation's 75th anniversary. Intended to be one-time only, the event was so successful, it’s happening once more for the 80th anniversary in May 2025. But this will be the last time.

In Our Fathers' Footsteps is a not-for-profit immersive experience that enables the descendants of Canadians who helped liberate the Dutch during the Second World War to gain a deeper understanding of their relative’s wartime experience.

140 Canadians will walk the paths of the Canadian liberators in the Netherlands and participate in private ceremonies and local Liberation events.

Participants will walk in platoons (based on their relatives’ unit) through fields, forests, and liberated villages, immerse themselves in personalized commemorations and local festivities, stay in a former Second World War Canadian field hospital, and meet Princess Margriet. Maj.-Gen Richard Rohmer (100)—who is Honorary Lt.-Gen of the Canadian Armed Forces—is In Our Fathers’ Footsteps’ Patron and will participate in events.
