This year's Guelph Santa Claus Parade will take place downtown on Saturday, Dec. 2, in the evening.

The parade, traditionally held on a Sunday afternoon in November in Guelph, will be part of a Spirit of the Season event that is a combined effort between the Downtown Guelph Business Association and the Guelph Community Foundation.

The parade is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. It will be followed by the annual mayor's tree lighting ceremony.

Spirit of the Season takes place Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2, and includes two holiday markets: a two-day indoor market at Old Quebec Street Mall and an outdoor market at St. George's square on Dec. 1 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“As the nights get longer in December, we are excited to build a festival that will bring together the residents of Guelph and surrounding community to celebrate the winter holidays with some added sparkle in Downtown Guelph,” says Chris Willard, executive director of The Guelph Community Foundation in a press release.

Money raised at the event will go to the Home For Good campaign for permanent supportive housing projects.

An official event web site www.spiritoftheseason.ca will be coming later this summer.
