Guelph's member of parliament spent the weekend recovering after having a procedure to put in a stent, but Lloyd Longfield says he's already back at work attending committee meetings virtually.

Longfield said he spent five days at Guelph General Hospital before attending the regional cardiac care centre at St. Mary’s General Hospital for the day surgery to install the stent.

"I was on the same floor as the ICU," said Longfield of his five days at GGH. "It was incredible watching all of the ICU staff rushing back and forth in their PPE."

Longfield said the issue was discovered before there was any damage to his heart and after a weekend of rest he attended two parliamentary committee meetings earlier this week.

"I would say I have recovered," said Longfield when asked how long he needed to recover from the procedure.

Longfield said it was reassuring that the Canadian health care system was there for him when he needed it.

An avid cyclist, Longfield said he is eager to get the all clear to get back on his bike.

"I have added a morning walk to my routine and having oatmeal for breakfast and just taking care of myself that way," said Longfield of his recovery.
