The Guelph Fire Fighters Association saw a massive increase in donations for their annual boot toll after last year’s event was cancelled due to COVID.
“We were able to make up for it with the generosity from the people of Guelph,” said firefighter Jared Bauman in an email.
“We finally have our official count in after collecting from our last corporate sponsors, and we were just informed we had the largest collection of donations in all of Canada this year with $45,086.”
Bauman said the total amount for October's boot toll was a $20,000 increase from two years ago.
The boot toll is a tradition that began in 1973 and is held across North America to raise funds to help against the fight for Muscular Dystrophy in Canada.
“We also want to personally thank platoon chief John King and platoon chief Geoff Adlington for allowing us to use training vehicles that weekend, which made the logistics for the day a breeze,” said Bauman.
This was more than a $20,000 increase from two years ago.
“Mike Rao, Michael Hasson and I would like to sincerely thank the volunteers that came out and made it such a successful year. We hope to see lots more out next year and we can try and surpass this year’s total,” said Bauman.
