Guelph Conservative Party of Canada candidate Gurvir Khaira says he plans on moving to Guelph in the near future.
After seeing a GuelphToday article about him being the local candidate, the 24-year-old Khaira sent GuelphToday a "statement" to "clarify a few things."
The University of Guelph graduate said he is "currently in the process of moving back into Guelph and hope to relocate ASAP. I chose to run in Guelph because I love this city and will always love this city."
For the second and third times, he declined to be interviewed. Saying he wasn't authorized to conduct an interview at this point.
Khaira confirmed he previously sought the Brampton East nomination but gave no explanation as to why he is now running in Guelph.
Yes I have run before as a nomination contestant in Brampton East, and for that I am glad because it taught me the skills I need to effectively run a campaign in a place that stole my heart back in 2018. I am looking forward to seeing Guelphites (whom soon I will be calling fellow Guelphites) at the doors."
As for why his real estate licence is listed as "suspended" on the Real Estate Council of Ontario web site, he said he voluntarily gave it up as he is now in law school.
"Firstly, I voluntarily gave my real estate license away and chose not to renew it willingly, thus showing the status of my license being in the state of suspension (for that reason alone). I am currently in law school and graduated with distinction from the University of Guelph with a B.A majoring in Hons. Criminal Justice & Public Policy," he wrote in his statement.
