Guelph Community Singers (GCS) come together again for an upcoming concert after a surge in members joined in the fall of last year.
The concert called She Sings will feature songs from female songwriters Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton, Adele, Beyoncé, and Taylor Swift.
GCS will perform on Jan. 20 at Trinity United Church and doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets purchased online in advance for $20 and there will be a limited amount of tickets available at the door for $25.
“During the pandemic the choir at times met solely virtually or hybrid, but GCS stuck together as a community and found creative ways to continue despite the challenges in recent years,” said Kim Gould, GCS board chair, in a press release.
Membership is close to reaching its pre-pandemic capacity again. The group has a hybrid format where singers can join in-person or online.
”Despite a period of time when gathering in large groups was not possible and membership was naturally reduced due to the environment, we continue to flourish,” said Gould in the release.
After the concert GCS will have its first rehearsal of the new year on Jan. 31. The rehearsals will be led by Henry Muth, director of GCS and accompanying him is Grace Peters.
