A free public series entitled, More Stuff or More Life?  Reversing Consumerism for a Fairer, Greener Future will occur on three consecutive Mondays starting April 17, 2023 at Dublin Street United Church. The series pursues how to meet the needs of all within the means of the planet.

On April 17, Dr. Peter Victor will outline his latest book, Escape from Overshoot: Economics for a Planet in Peril. Peter Victor is a leading Canadian economist studying alternatives to economic growth. “He both understands that endless growth is impossible within Earth’s ecological limits and offers a viable path to a post-growth future that is much more environmentally sound and equitable,” explains Elizabeth Snell, one of the series organizers. “We are thrilled he can come to Guelph just days after release of his book."

April 24 will be presentations from a panel of local agencies implementing actions toward a fairer, greener Guelph. They include examples of circular economies and improving equity among our citizens.

May 1 will be a facilitated discussion among attendees to brainstorm further actions for shifting the system from extractive growth toward fairness and sustainability.

All events will be from 7 pm to 8:30 p.m. and will conclude with informal discussion over refreshments. The series is organized by the Justice and Outreach Committee of Dublin Street United Church.  The church is at the corner of Dublin and Suffolk Streets. The entrance is off the parking lot. Bus Route 3.
