A state of emergency has been declared in parts of North Wellington County due to flooding.

Mapleton Township and the town of Minto have both declared states of emergency.

The areas worst affected are roughly one hour north of Guelph.

Minto CAO Bill White issued a statement saying that due to Thursday night's significant rain fall a state of emergency was declared at 10:04 a.m.

"Trailer Park residents were evacuated; power and gas have been disconnected. Westario Power is in Harriston as many flooded basements have electrical concerns," White's statement read. "Minto fire is now evacuating residents on King Street South in Harriston.

He warned that waters continue to rise on the Maitland River.

"Significant isolated flooding occurred through Minto in the early morning hours," White said.

Highway 89 in Harriston is closed from Arthur Street to O'Dwyers Road. Several other streets are flooded, as is the trailer park.

There are also reports of isolated flooding in Palmerston and Clifford. Some rural roads are impassable.

There are also reports of some side roads in the Arthur area being flooded.
