Dan Atkins has been appointed as the CEO of the Guelph Public Library.
Atkins will start his role as CEO beginning next month. He served as the acting CEO of the library since Steven Kraft retired in February.
“I am honoured to serve as the CEO of the Guelph Public Library, dedicated to fostering innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity as we continue to empower our community through knowledge and connection,” said Atkins, in a press release.
He has worked at the library since 2006 and started as a reference librarian before he was a supervisor of the bookmobile and the Bullfrog Mall branch.
“The Guelph Public Library is in the midst of a significant moment in its history,” said Danny Williamson, chair of the Guelph Public Library Board, in the release. “After an extensive search, it became clear that Dan’s combination of experience and vision made him a perfect choice to lead the library into the future.”
Atkins will oversee the move of the main library to its new central location in the Baker District. The target opening of the new main library is fall 2026.
He is set to work closely with the library board to help its mission to offer inclusive and sustainable space while also including opportunities to engage people in their curiosity and create community.
