The deadline is fast approaching for prospective organizations, individuals and groups wishing to participate in the upcoming Culture Days festivities.
Anyone wanting to participate in this year’s celebrations is urged to register their event or activity on the Culture Days website before Wednesday, Sept. 13 to ensure they are listed in the Culture Day’s program.
A full listing of Guelph-based activities will also be posted on the City’s website. The Culture Days website provides tips, tools, swag and training for those who register. All events will be promoted nationally and locally.
So far, Guelph Potters’ Guild, Silence, The Guelph Wellington Local Immigration Partnership, Guelph Public Library, The Royal City Ukulele Ensemble, Guelph Museums and The Loft Children’s Library at The Salvation Army have signed on to provide free, public activities.
In addition, the City will host an artist talk and exhibition for Carolyn Meili’s Artist in Residence project, The Parade, over the weekend, along with an installation of artwork created as part of RBC Market Mornings with Sarah Mousseau. The City will also host a Culture Hub and Makers Market in Market Square on the Saturday. Artists wishing to be involved are encouraged to email [email protected].
Culture Days is a national celebration that takes place in Guelph from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 and will feature thousands of free, hands-on activities.
The aim is to increase awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of Canadians in their local arts and culture community. Whether you’re already passionate about arts and culture or curious about new experiences, everyone has a role to play during Culture Days.
The scope of Culture Days activities is limitless and includes visual arts, music, dance, theatre, architecture, heritage, film, video, literature, culinary arts and new media. Any cultural activity may be registered provided the activity is free to the public and is participatory or interactive in nature.
“Culture Days is not only a celebration, but an opportunity to showcase what you, or your organization do year-round,” says Jen Rafter, cultural program and event coordinator for the City of Guelph. “We encourage organizers to register free activities promoting upcoming events and for artists to have items for sale while activities are running.”
