A photograph taken on the Eramosa River is among the winners of the third annual Greenbelt Photo Contest and will be presented at an exhibition at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
Photographer David Coulson had four photos from across Ontario that placed in the contest, including the photo of a canoeist on a frigid Eramos River.
Coulson, who is based in Toronto, also placed with photos taken at Caledon, Mount Nemo and the contest’s overall winner taken at Rouge Park.
The theme of the 2018 contest was ‘Human Connection to the Greenbelt’ and the winning photos captured all four seasons.
At 2 million acres, Ontario’s Greenbelt is the world’s largest permanently protected greenbelt.
The juried contest is operated by the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation in partnership with the Professional Photographers of Canada and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
The winning photos will be on display at the McMichael Canadain Art Collection in Kleinburg, Ont. until July 15, after which they will go on tour at various art galleries throughout the Greenbelt area.
“These winning photos, and all of the submissions, showcase the diversity of experiences and opportunities in the Greenbelt,” said Edward McDonnell, CEO of the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation. “By protecting the vital natural and agricultural resources in our region, the Greenbelt provides a unique opportunity to connect with the landscape in all its forms.”
