Erin’s only Beer Store is set to close next month, according to the beer workers’ union.

UFCW Canada Local 12R24 confirmed the store, located on 140 Main St. in Erin, is set to close April 27, along with several others across the province.

Union president John Nock said the union is “very upset” about the closures.

“Premier Ford negotiated an early implementation agreement with breweries; this is a direct result of that agreement,” Nock said in an email.

However, he said the exact reason for the closure of this location could be several things, from not enough volume to repair costs.

He believes the Erin store has about four employees.

Staff will be offered positions elsewhere or severance.

Knock said the locations closing April 27 will mark 28 total closures across the province since May 2024.

The Beer Store responded March 6, confirming the closure and noting the Main Street location opened in 2001.

“Like any retailer in today’s evolving marketplace for beverage alcohol, we are continually evaluating our business operations to ensure we’re meeting the needs of our customers and adapting to change," said vice president of retail Ozzie Ahmed of the reason for the closure.

"The Beer Store is closely watching our retail stores and making decisions on what makes the most sense for how we operate as a business. Any decision we make considers our commitment to serving our customers," Ahmed said.
