ERIN – The Town of Erin is looking at a 3.9 per cent tax increase, according to the first draft of its 2025 budget.
Erin council will get a first look at next year’s budget at its Thursday meeting.
A report on the agenda said the 3.9 per cent tax increase results in an additional $1.69 million in the total tax levy. The report does not provide the average impact on residents’ property taxes.
Last year’s increase was three per cent which worked out to an additional $29.68 on the property tax bill of a home assessed at $600,000.
The budget includes $11.3 million in capital requests, excluding the wastewater projects, with $1.2 million suggested to be funded through taxation including:
- $500,000 for information technology digital transformation
- $80,000 for website design
- $135,000 for various fire equipment upgrades
- $18,000 for 50 per cent of recreation arena boards, theatre seating, cabinets
- $22,000 for parks and recreation lawnmower
- $50,000 for replacement of Ballinafad accessibility ramp
A budget forecast covering 2026 to 2028 included in the report recommends about a 2.5 per cent tax increase each year, incorporating taxes collected from new homes being occupied over that time period.
Council will not be making a decision on the budget at this meeting.
