A Guelph car dealership has been closed temporarily after several employees tested positive for COVID.

A total of 11 cases of COVID have been linked to the Olympic Honda dealership on Woodlawn Road, said Danny WIlliamson, spokesperson for Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health in an email on Friday.

Williamson said the outbreak was declared on April 23. On its web site, Olympic Honda said it is closed 'due to the concerns associated with the pandemic' and will notify the public when it reopens.

On Monday an outbreak was also declared at Royal Chevrolet Cadillac dealership in Orangeville, which is also within WDG Public Health's service area.

Williamson said no link has been established between the two facilities and car dealerships have not been identified as having an elevated risk over other businesses.

"The reality is, we’re in the midst of the third wave and the variants are much more transmissible," said Williamson. "That’s going to result in more COVID in our community which puts us at greater risk for cases in workplaces that were previously unaffected."
