Former Guelphite Sandy MacKay is returning to the Royal City this November to celebrate the release of his East Coast folk trio’s debut album, “Wood & Wire.”
MacKay is a member of New Brunswick folk trio Preeper Rhaye and MacKay, which includes musicians Jessica Rhaye and Bill Preeper. All three members sing, while Preeper and Rhaye play various guitars and MacKay plays bass, mandolin and banjo.
The group is releasing its debut album on Oct. 25, recorded live and featuring the single “Rocky Hills” and a rendition of “Goin’ Back to Harlan,” and will celebrate the release with a tour stop at Silence Sounds on Nov. 6.
“We wanted Wood & Wire to capture what we do as a trio,” said Rhaye in a press release. “It’s an album of folk songs with three-part harmonies. During the recording process we would play the songs over and over until we all felt like we got the take we wanted. We achieved our goal of making a record that could have been written and recorded in the height of the Greenwich Village folk scene.”
Other Canadian tour dates include Halifax, Saint John, Ottawa, Toronto and more, before the band goes on to be an official showcase artist in the U.S. for the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance alongside Guelph band Tragedy Ann.
