With the entrance to Yarmouth Street shut down for construction, access will be from Woolwich Street. Two-way traffic will be allowed on the traditinonally one-way street.

The entrance to a downtown street will be closed for about five weeks in order to accommodate nearby growth, with two-way traffic will be allowed on much of the traditionally one-way road.

Underground infrastructure is being installed below Yarmouth Street at Quebec Street, where travellers would typically get on the one-way road. The shutdown was to begin Monday and last for about five weeks, according to a post on the city’s website.

“We understand the inconvenience this causes,” states the post. “During this time, Yarmouth Street will become a two-way street and access to all buildings and parking garages will be maintained via Woolwich Street. There will be no street parking allowed to provide enough space for traffic flow in both directions.”

During the construction, access to Yarmouth will be solely off Woolwich Street. No street parking is allowed.

“All businesses in the construction area remain open and accessible throughout construction,” the post notes.

The infrastructure work is being done to support the new library and future residential development along Baker Street.

Most construction work is to take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
