A couple of downtown fast food options may be eliminated in favour of a 29-storey building.
Though no formal submissions have been made just yet, a developer recently provided initial details to city officials regarding its plan to redevelop 36-50 Wellington St. E. – currently home to Wendy’s and KFC.
Efforts to reach Vive Development for additional information weren’t immediately successful.
Development plan details were included in a submission to city council regarding the downtown building heights study.
In that submission, Vive notes its desire to replace the existing fast food establishments with a 29-storey building with ground floor commercial space. It’s to include a four-storey podium with parking,
At this time, there have been no formal planning applications filed with the city, nor pre-submission consultations, Chris DeVriendt, the city's manager of planning development, told GuelphToday via email.
It’s not stated how many apartment units or the quantity of commercial space that would be created. Nor is there any information about the inclusion of affordability or accessibility.
Currently, the site can have buildings up to 12 storeys tall, but the draft building heights plan would see it capped at 10 storeys.
