DENSO Manufacturing is donating 41 bicycles to the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition as part of its annual Build-a-Bike program.

A Guelph manufacturing company has once again put their pedal to the metal to help families this holiday season.

DENSO workers assembled 41 bikes as part of the Build-a-Bike program.

These bikes will go to the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition (GNSC), and will be donated to local families just in time for Christmas.

“When our community comes together for a common cause, good things happen,” Brendan Johnson, executive director of GNSC, said in a news release. “We’re grateful for DENSO’s commitment to Build-a-Bike, which amounts to much more than just assembling bicycles. It can make all the difference in creating a memorable holiday for our neighbours and friends in Guelph. These bikes are a gift of love and kindness to the community.”

The program has been running since 2017, but was paused for a couple years due to the pandemic. To date, 238 bikes have been built and donated.

Each bike was inspected by Grand River Cycle. GNSC ensures bikes are matched up with families, and takes care of deliveries. Helmets of various sizes are also donated.

“Whether we’re building an automotive product or a bike for a family, our focuses on quality and safety always shine through,” John Klassen, the president of the DENSO Guelph facility, said in a news release.

“I’d like to thank our DENSO team, GNSC and Grand River Cycle, who always make this a fun opportunity for us to use our manufacturing skills to help people in the community.”

In addition, DENSO will donate $2,000 to the GNSC’s North End Harvest Market.
