A two-storey, 10-unit condo redevelopment project on the city’s east end has been given the go-ahead.
City council approved the plan for 14 Stevenson St. N. – located just north of Elizabeth Street and immediately north of the Metrolinx railway tracks – during its monthly planning meeting on Tuesday evening.
The project, from owner HB Developments, will see the existing house and garage demolished in order to make way for a 2.5-storey tall stacked townhouse block with 10 condominium units, along with 13 parking spaces for residents and visitors.
Also included in the plan is a 45 cm thick crash wall along the Metrolinks railway tracks.
In a report to council ahead of the vote, city staff recommended its approval.
“The proposed development application is in conformity with the policies of the city’s official plan, which is the city’s key document for guiding future land use and development,” the report states.
The project is expected to generate $228,064 in estimated development charges for the city, as well as $25,000 to $35,000 in annual property taxes.
During a public meeting in November, council heard concern about the redevelopment’s potential impact on on-street parking in the area.
A previous plan for the site called for a three-storey, 12-unit townhouse block.
Coun. Michele Richardson was absent from the meeting and Coun. Leanne Caron was not present for this portion of council's meeting.
