Kevin Coghill has gone above and beyond to help those in need in his community.
He has humbly and quietly been serving the most underprivileged members of the Guelph community for years.
“I was shocked. I didn’t know that someone had nominated me,” shared Coghill when told of his award win. “It’s nice to know that people think that we do good things at Royal City Mission.”
Every day, Coghill and his team at Royal City Mission provide food, shelter, programs and a sense of community to hundreds of people who need it the most.
Beyond providing food programs, they also implement initiatives like the Belongings Bins, where people can store their belongings out of the elements in a dry, clean and secure environment.
A resource hub in our community, public nurses, outreach workers, Ontario Works and a community closet are all accessible at different times at the Royal City Mission.
“It isn’t just me who deserves credit. I have hundreds of volunteers who do amazing work that deserve to be recognized,” praised Coghill. “Thank you to my nominators who are also doing amazing things for the community, which makes this award an even bigger blessing.”
Coghill personally goes out to meet people where they are, assisting the most vulnerable residents of Guelph in getting to appointments and accessing resources.
“There are many days where I come here and think about the struggles that people go through and I think they’re the ones that deserve an award for all that they go through,” shared Coghill. “There are unsung heroes all around me.”
The Unsung Hero award is presented to an individual or group whose tireless work and/or volunteer efforts in our community seek to improve the lives of others. The recipient has created a positive impact in our community both now and for the future.
Congratulations, Kevin!
