Clothing Closet running winter clothing drive

Warm clothes can be dropped off from Oct. 15 to the end of October

With winter lurking around the corner, the Clothing Closet is looking for your cold weather donations to help others stay warm. 

Now in its third year, he winter clothing campaign is a partnership between the Rotary club of Guelph Trillium (RCGT) and the Clothing Closet, which offers free clothing in a thrift store environment for those in need.

The campaign launches on Oct. 15 and will run until the end of October. Clean winter clothing for children, men and women will be accepted.

“This year we are pleased to announce that we are partnering with the Guelph Library as well as three local businesses in Guelph that have kindly agreed to serve as drop-off locations for people wishing to donate new and/or gently-used coats, jackets and winter clothing," said past president of RCGT  Anne Day.

Drop off locations include:

  • The Guelph Library main branch on 100 Norfolk St.
  • K Cleaners on 150 Kortright Rd. W.
  • Original Home Furniture Store on 259 B Woodlawn Rd. W.
  • Sealy Karate on 10 Speedvale Ave E. 

The Clothing Closet is located in New Life Church on 400 Victoria Road N., open Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. to7 p.m. for shopping.

Donations can be dropped off on Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. 

“There is a growing need for our service, and in the last year alone we have served over 1,000 people, many of whom are new to Canada, and don’t have suitable clothing to tackle our winters," said coordinator Lisa Burke.
