Come celebrate Culture Days with us at the Guelph Youth Music Centre (GYMC) on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.! Experience the vibrant arts and culture of our community through a variety of free, interactive workshops, open rehearsals, and live performances for all ages. Don’t miss this chance to immerse yourself in the creative spirit of Guelph!

The event will feature a variety of exciting activities, including musical theatre dance classes by Dance Spirit Studios, stage combat demonstrations by Blackthorn Productions, and acting improv sessions with The Acting Centre. Families with young children can enjoy a Great Lakes Music Together class for children 0-5 and their grownups, while all ages can join a community drum circle led by a local drumming collective.

Visitors are invited to drop in and observe the Suzuki String School of Guelph’s group rehearsals or sing along during an open choir rehearsal with the Guelph Youth Singers. Don’t miss the instrument petting zoo hosted by the Suzuki String School of Guelph, where guests of all ages can try playing the violin, viola, and cello. The afternoon will conclude with a 4:00 p.m. showcase in the GYMC Recital Hall, spotlighting performances from various local arts organizations.

Culture Days is a national celebration of arts and culture held annually at the end of September. Millions of people across Canada take part in free, participatory arts and culture events, both in-person and online. The 2024 Culture Days celebration runs from September 20 through October 13, 2024, offering three weeks of vibrant programming that invites everyone to experience the joy of creativity, community, and culture. With a mission to break down barriers to arts participation and encourage deeper connections to culture, Culture Days emphasizes inclusivity, exploration, and shared experiences across the country.

About the organizations: 

Blackthorn Productions specializes in education and entertainment with a focus on teaching medieval history and stage combat workshops. Their programs include festivals, live theatre, educational programs, workshops, film projects and customized presentations.

Dance Spirit Studios (DSS) has been teaching the love of dance since 1987. DSS' philosophy has always been inclusion and education for all. Most importantly, having fun and sharing the love of dance. Angel and her staff provide certified, professional lessons in a warm and inviting environment.

Guelph School of Music (GSM) offers private music lessons to students of all ages and levels, and are tailored to meet the needs of individual students. GSM has a faculty of highly qualified, professional, and experienced teachers who provide high excellence in music education.

Guelph Youth Singers (GYS) aims to support the well-being of children and youth in our community by providing an inclusive space to experience fun and high-quality musical training. They strive to brand Guelph as a city that values the arts and recognizes how the arts contribute to the healthy development of youth and children.

Great Lakes Music Together helps children ages 0-7 build a basic musical foundation by tapping into their natural aptitude for music. These classes support social, emotional, and cognitive development while fostering a lifelong love of music.

Suzuki String School of Guelph (SSSG) The SSSG has been in Guelph since 1972 and is proud of its amazing reputation and experience teaching children from ages 3-18. Their full program includes private lessons, group lessons, concerts, recitals and workshops.

The Acting Center is a premier studio offering performance classes in film, television and stage. Children and teen classes study technique in a safe and fun environment. From the Beginner looking to bolster confidence through public speech and performance to the Professional looking to hone their auditions skills, there is something for everyone at The Acting Center.

Guelph Youth Music Centre (GYMC) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to education, enrichment and fostering the development of youth through music and the arts. Through a variety of programs, provision of space to partner organizations and outreach into the community, the GYMC enriches many lives.
