Both the #1MillionMarch4Children and No Hate in Guelph groups are planning separate gatherings at Royal City Park this Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Million Person March officials are dubbing it #MillionMarchRound2, a "worldwide rally protecting the innocence of children."
"Keep indoctrination out of education," the poster reads. "Let kids be kids!"
Despite a poster circulating about a rally in Guelph, and a Facebook page created to promote the event, the official Million March website has not listed Guelph as a location for one of its marches as of Monday afternoon.
City councillor Erin Caton isn't waiting for that official confirmation to rally anti-hate protesters.
She posted to X requesting "the honour of your presence to celebrate human rights and counter-protest hate and bigotry."
Caton is asking counter-protesters to gather at noon near the large circular flower bed on Gordon Street. She said masks are required, as COVID, RSV and the flu are in the air, adding free masks will be available.
"Ignore counter protesters, (the) security team in vests can help de-escalate for you," Caton said.
It comes after a similar rally on Sept. 20 at Guelph City Hall.
On a weekday, about 850 No Hate in Guelph counter-protesters and about 150 #1MillionMarch4Children protesters clashed in what was considered a tense, yet civil gathering, complete with duelling chants and a walk by both sides.
