FERGUS – A Habitat for Humanity affordable housing proposal for Fergus is progressing.

A zoning bylaw amendment filed with the Township of Centre Wellington shows the organization is looking to build a 32-unit stacked townhouse condominium development at 465 Garafraxa St. W. in Fergus, currently vacant land.

Habitat for Humanity Guelph Wellington previously announced its intention to build housing in Fergus in September with a mix of market rate homes and habitat homes.

“The proposed Habitat for Humanity units will act as an affordable home ownership options for low-income families that are struggling to enter the market,” a planning justification report stated.

The report said three separate stacked townhouse structures are being proposed, with one three-storey building proposed for the north side of the site and two three-storey buildings proposed on the south end of the site for 32 units in total.

These units will be built and managed by Habitat for Humanity Guelph Wellington.

The report said there will be a total of 47 parking spaces provided, 45 for residents and two visitor spots, and includes three barrier-free spaces.

There will be a public meeting on this development on March 29 at 6 p.m. in the council chamber at the township’s civic centre in Elora.
