A local coalition is getting some funding help to address digital inequalities it has arising from the pandemic.

The Guelph Public Library, working with the Guelph Wellington Digital Equity Coalition, is getting $105,085 from a federal government fund, being administered by the United Way.

The fund focuses on helping organizations adapt in their recovery from the pandemic.

The library plans to hire someone for six months in a digital equity assistant role to “explore and implement solutions to increase digital access across the community.”

It also plans to “develop a new digital skill building collection to provide equity deserving community members access to digital devices and learning opportunities through the GWDEC.”

The money will also help assist the creation of “digital skill building” programming, as well providing training and instruction to coalition members and clients.
