GuelphToday received the following Letter to the Editor from Pat Gage, President of Guelph Wellington Seniors Association:

Thank you for the article you published on September 11th highlighting the work we are doing with our survey at the Guelph Wellington Seniors Association.

I just wanted to follow up with some very important additional details.  The 55+ demographic group is one of the fastest growing in our region and our Board believes that now is the time to collect current data to help not only our organization but other levels of government to better plan for services that will be needed by older adults in Guelph and Wellington County in the future.

This is the first region wide survey of its kind ever launched by the Association and it is focused on eight areas of an age-friendly community as defined by the World Health Organization. We have translated this survey into seven different languages to ensure all voices of all are heard and worked closely with several different agencies to develop the questions. There are questions regarding health and wellness, social activities, transportation, and housing needs. The GWSA and our partners aim to gather insights to enhance services and programs for older adults in the community.  The electronic survey is available at  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/368GVVZ. Physical paper copies are available at Guelph and Wellington County libraries.

We will be sharing our findings and using the data collected from this survey to better address the needs of our community. The closing date for the survey is October 15th.

This fall Guelph Wellington Seniors Association will be celebrating 35 years of operation this fall.  Our mission is to enable older adults to be active, involved, make friends, and age with dignity.
