Did you know that Scott Coburn’s father Roy was Guelph’s first optician back in the 1940s? His business, the former Imperial Optical was based in the current Red Brick location on Douglas Street. The circular layers of history in Guelph’s ‘village’ continues as ever it seems.

Born and bred in Guelph, Scott paralleled his secondary school years at Centennial CVI by informal training with his father before and after attending the Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson) amounting to over 10 years of practical experience.

After serving his early professional years at Shorney’s Optical in the former Eaton’s Centre (now the Quebec Street Mall) Scott branched out on his own, opening on Wyndham Street premises, October 28

1994 from which he then moved across to the west side of the street in April 2000.

Every year Scott’s licensed degree on the wall has marked it’s annual sticker of renewal in training and expertise. And so for nearly three decades, whether in the family business or on his own, Scott Coburn has provided exemplary personalised service in his specialised attention to client’s needs and budgets.

His transitional partnership with Iris Optical for the past 3 years has been a gradual one as Scott and the staff continued their dedicated support of a customer base whose repeated transactions demonstrate they are aware of how pivotal such a business remains in Guelph’s downtown community.

Whether it be on the golf course at Cutten Fields or volunteering with the Joy Home Tour around Christmas time to benefit Hope House....whatever Scott may pursue, you can be sure his beagle Betsy will be a ready to enjoy his retirement as well.
