Youth Rowing has been proven to improve not only physical fitness but also mental health and build confidence. Our Jr. Learn to Row one-week camp is a half-day morning program with an emphasis on physical activity, fun and above all water safety. Participants learn parts of the boat, boat handling, and rowing technique. Our camp is taught by qualified counsellors trained in first aid and Learn-to-Row coaching.
Where?
Our camp takes place on Guelph Lake in the Guelph Lake Conservation Area. Entry into the park is included in the cost.
Monday:
Monday on-land intro to rowing including safety rules, boat handling techniques, rowing technique and swim assessment. First day will include a swim test with participants jumping off the doc in street clothes and being thrown a pfd. Participants will learn basic rowing terms, the importance of balance, technique and teamwork.
Tuesday through Thursday:
On-water sessions, weather permitting. In the event of bad weather, coaches will lead on-land rowing sessions (e.g., technique on rowing machine, strength and fitness)
Friday:
Regatta Day! After a warm-up session, the racing begins! The Regatta wraps up at noon with the Awards. Parents and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Description:
For youth 11+ with previous rowing experience. The focus is on building skills learned. Participants will gain confidence over the summer season in handling equipment and mastering fundamental rowing skills, all in a relaxed fun atmosphere.
Participants will be encouraged to participate in fun races.
Safety: Junior participants will be supervised by experienced coaches in fully-safety-equipped motorized coach boats. All coaches have proper police background checks, Standard First Aid and CPR, and Learn to Row coach training.
