GUELPH GENERAL HOSPITAL

This afternoon, in consultation with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, the COVID-19 outbreak on 4 East at Guelph General Hospital was declared over. It has been 14 days since the last hospital-acquired, COVID-positive patient was put in isolation with droplet contact precautions.
“This is good news in this challenging time,” says Melissa Skinner, VP Patient Services and Chief Nursing Executive. “Full credit goes to the expertise and teamwork of hundreds of staff to bring this outbreak to a close.”
In the end, five patients and six staff tested positive out of the 116 staff associated with the unit.
“By no means can we let down our guard,” Skinner says. “Here, it’s only by us continuing to do everything we can to maintain best practices in infection control along with the combined efforts of the community at large that we will keep our patients and our staff safe and protected.”
The hospital will continue with all its pandemic protocols including restrictive visitor policy, enhanced cleaning and active screening of all patients and approved visitors.
