Princeton Shores & Bartlett Boulevard Watermain Improvements

Town of Collingwood

Construction Information

Residents and business owners in Collingwood and the surrounding area are advised the Town of Collingwood is proceeding with the Princeton Shores & Bartlett Boulevard Watermain Improvements project. The project will include the following works:

  • Relining of approximately 1,500 metres of watermain;
  • Replacement of approximately 150 metres of watermain;
  • Installation of hydrants; and
  • Full reinstatement of all areas disturbed during construction (driveways, boulevards, etc.).

The primary objective of this project is to rehabilitate the existing water distribution infrastructure.

The Town has tendered and awarded the Contract to Fer-Pal Construction Ltd. who are scheduled to mobilize and commence work in September 2024. Construction is expected to be complete by December 2024, with miscellaneous restoration works in Spring 2025.

Please note this schedule is subject to change, based on several factors including inclement weather, the addition of extra construction crews, unforeseen conditions, etc. Tatham Engineering and the Town of Collingwood will endeavor to keep residents aware of major schedule changes, should they arise.

Boulevard Restoration

Disturbed boulevards will be restored with topsoil and seed. We urge all homeowners to refrain from parking on or disturbing the fresh seed until the root systems are established.

Homeowners should remove private landscape features within the right-of-way prior to construction.

Utility Interruptions

Bell and Rogers services may be inadvertently affected by construction Please inform the contractor on site if a service becomes disrupted. We will work together with the utility service to ensure repairs are completed in a timely manner. Gas and hydro services should not be affected by construction, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Property Access

Driveway access for local traffic will be maintained to the extent possible. If vehicular access is restricted for more than 24 hours, the contractor will provide notification at least 24 hours in advance (we do not anticipate this will occur).

Emergency access will be maintained at all times.

Garbage, Recycling & Composting

On the normal collection day, place all garbage, recyclable, compost and/or yard waste materials at the front of your property as usual. The contractor will transfer these items outside of the construction zone for pickup (if required by the waste collection services). Please mark your address clearly on your applicable containers so they can be returned to the correct owner by the contractor.

It is very important that you take your refuse and recyclable items to the front of your property by 7:00 a.m. Otherwise, they might not be picked up.

Temporary Watermain

Temporary watermain will be installed above ground to provide all residents and businesses with potable water during the installation and commissioning of the new watermain. The temporary above ground watermain may restrict lawn maintenance and driveway conditions (i.e. may require ramping) in certain areas. Temporary water connections will be made through the hose bib of each residence.

During the connection to the temporary watermain and the new water service, water may not be available for approximately 2-3 hours. The contractor will provide date and time notification prior to any interruptions at least 24 hours in advance.

Accessibility

If you require wheelchair access, home care visits, etc., please contact the Contract Administrator (see below).

Property Impacts

Vibration from construction should be expected. Homeowners should remove valuables and pictures from walls.

Site Safety

Construction involves the use of heavy equipment and the unavoidable creation of obstacles (excavations, etc.).

These circumstances are often attractive to children, and as such, we ask that you caution your children to stay clear of the working area. If they must walk by the construction activity, small children should be accompanied by an adult.

The contractor is required to conduct the work in a safe manner, including fencing of deep excavations, if required. We ask that you take extra caution during the construction period to ensure everyone’s safety.
