Town of Collingwood Announces Updated Hours for Canine Control Service

Town of Collingwood

Effective July 1, 2024, the Town of Collingwood will implement new operational hours for its Canine Control Service.

The service will now operate from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Additionally, on-call service hours will be available until 8:00 PM, seven days a week, to address emergency situations such as injured pets or contained lost dogs.

The decision to adjust the operating hours was made following a thorough review of the By-law Services Division and service call data. This adjustment aims to ensure that the Town continues to provide effective and efficient support while responsibly managing resources.

The Canine Control Service remains responsible for important functions, including the humane capture, containment, and transport of roaming dogs, reuniting lost dogs with their owners, investigating and prosecuting cases involving dog bites and dangerous dogs, and administering animal licensing within the Town.

Collingwood residents should note that any dogs found after 8:00 PM will not be responded to until 8:00 AM the following day. Stray or lost dogs that are injured can be taken to the nearest Emergency Vet Clinic for immediate care. For issues related to animal distress, neglect, abuse, or abandonment, residents are encouraged to contact Animal Welfare at 1-833-9-ANIMAL (1-833-926-4625).

For any questions or further information, please contact the Town's Canine Control Service directly at [email protected].

The By-law Services Division looks forward to continuing to provide exceptional services to the public and extends its gratitude to the community for their ongoing support.
