A lot has changed over time since Home Furniture was established in 1948. Lynn and Darlene McClellan of Elora bought the store from Monty Albert in 1989. With furniture and design backgrounds, Lynn and Darlene spent years building a fantastic reputation for selling quality furniture at reasonable prices. They’ve always made sure their customers were provided with a great family-owned experience from start to finish. For a number of years, Home Furniture was a member of the Home Hardware organization, furniture division, who had also shared the name Home Furniture amongst their chain. After about 10 years the decision was made to expand and leave the group which left an identity question, what do we do about our name to set us apart? Hence “Original Home Furniture” was born!
Today we have grown into Guelph’s number 1 choice for Quality Custom Furniture featuring some of the best Canadian brands in the industry... Palliser, Décor Rest, Canadel, Crate Furniture, Durham Solid Wood Custom Bedrooms, Dreamstar Mattress, Tempur Sealy, Beautyrest, Linea Custom Upholstery and much more. To complement this stellar line up we sell the biggest line of reclining furniture — La-Z-boy, a household name in North America!
As Lynn and Darlene begin their retirement plans, the reins have been handed down to the next generation bringing fresh ideas and new ways of doing business with the same family-owned focus. Not only will you find great brands at great prices, but you’ll get a non-pressure environment with help from well-trained staff and designers. If you haven’t been in the store lately, you will be amazed as to how it has evolved, with lots of Manufacturer Gallery displays and technology to give the consumer the best possible experience! To complement this experience Original Home has opened a 10,000 sq. ft. Bedroom and Mattress Gallery at the other end of the plaza. This location features the biggest selection of everything sleep including bedrooms, sofa beds, cabinet beds, youth bedroom and the biggest mattress display in the region. Not only will you get the biggest selection, you will also find it is educated-focused AND comes with a 90 Day Sleep Guarantee!
Jon & Emily Macklin, the new Owners, have a philosophy of keeping all of the good from the past and enhancing all of the things that make Original Home Furniture the destination for great furniture...an onsite service department, our own delivery team, a “Best Price Guarantee” and a commitment of a great experience for our customers old and new! You may even run into your favourite sales associate from other stores you have shopped in the past as OHF opens its doors to the many talented people in the furniture industry.
Supporting Our Community
We believe that every business should give back to the community that supports them. We work closely with Habitat for Humanity providing furniture to their Re-Store, which can be repurposed instead of putting it in the landfill. We are a member of the Guelph Rotary Club Trillium and support the many fundraising initiatives that puts tens of thousands of dollars back into the community for those in need. We also support many other charitable groups like Food4Kids, Hope House, Guelph Humane Society and many more. Not everything is financial, Emily drives food to schools for Food4kids, Jon is a future Rotary President and Paul Harris Fellow, and also sits on the Board of Directors of the biggest buying group in Canada, Mega Group.
