A Guelph woman faces an aggravated assault charge after a man was slashed in the face with a broken bottle.

Just after 9 a.m. Monday police received several 911 calls about an injured male near the intersection of Waterloo Avenue and Edinburgh Road South. Officers located an adult male with a significant laceration to his nose and lip. The male refused to provide information, claiming he had fallen.

Officers followed a blood trail and discovered a broken glass bottle with blood on it. The male was transported to hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Through further investigation, officers determined he had been kicked in the abdomen and slashed across the face with a broken bottle by a female known to him.

A 28-year-old Guelph woman is charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. She is in custody on unrelated charges and will next appear in court Thursday.
