A Guelph woman, 37, is charged with assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose following an altercation at a downtown social services agency on Monday afternoon.

Police were called to the Wyndham Street North agency just before 1 p.m., after two women were involved in an altercation that saw one of them pushed before they were separated. The accused is alleged to have then pulled out a knife and began walking around inside the building threatening to harm the other woman.

She eventually handed the knife over to a bystander and was arrested a short time later, explains a police release.
